The 12 Best Barbershops in America

Heeey Internet,

I recently came across an article listing the best barbershops in America and I thought it would be a good Idea to highlight 12 of the barbershops.

Belmont Barbershop (pictured above)
“Our pompadours come in many shapes and sizes,” says barber Josh Cooley about his shop’s trademark look ($17). “Some days a sixties pompadour, others a high-and-tight with a strong part.” Read comic books while waiting for yours. 2328 W. Belmont Ave.; 773-296-0894;

Joe’s Barbershop Chicago
A Chicago institution since 1968, this cozy family-run shop (decorated with vintage tchotchkes like mounted puffer fish) receives high marks for its time-tested looks: slick-backs, hard parts, and flattops ($15). 2641 W. Fullerton Ave.; 773-252-3980;

New York City

Ben’s Barbers
There’s little in the way of decor, but the outgoing staff, laid-back style, and cheap cuts ($14) have made owner Ben Mosheyev a favorite among Alphabet City skaters. 217 Avenue A; 718-644-6701

Frank’s Chop Shop
Come to this thirties-inspired space for a straightforward scissors-only cut ($40 and up). Request Hiro or Kevin Kellett, both of whom are masters of the clippers-free hairstyle. 19 Essex St.; 212-228-7442;

State Street Barbers (pictured above)
The vintage photos and oak flooring spell tradition—and so do the master barbers with decades of experience, the hot-lather shaves, and the cuts ($34) that come standard with a shampoo, a scalp massage, and a beverage. 1313 Washington St.; 617-753-9990;

Miami Beach

Sloane Square Barbers & Shoppe
The plush South Beach redoubt features Chesterfield chairs and a complimentary bar. Ask for veteran barber Jesse Del Pozo, who is renowned for his sophisticated scissors cuts ($28). 1322 Alton Rd.; 305-673-0877;

Al’s Barber Shop
Alan Urbanowski is famed for easy-to-style cuts ($38) delivered amid old-school charm (black-and-white photos of past style icons) and new-school cool (exposed brick walls, contemporary wood flooring). 1425 Larimer St.; 303-534-1583

West Hollywood

Baxter Finley Barber & Shop
The antique light fixtures and vintage barber chairs recall a bygone era, but the attentive barbers deliver cuts ($40) that feel totally of the moment. 515 N. La Cienega Blvd.; 310-657-4726;

Rudy’s Barbershop
This Sunset Strip staple housed in the Standard Hotel offers low-key appeal in a glam setting (celebs often wander in for a trim). See Michael Quinn for one of his signature clippers cuts ($29 and up). 8300 W. Sunset Blvd.; 213-439-3058;

Los Angeles

Shorty’s Barber Shop (pictured above)
Want a do like cover star Adam Levine’s? He’s one of the many Hollywood types who flock to this rockabilly-inspired space for creative spins on traditional styles ($25). 755 N. Fairfax Ave.; 323-297-0554;

Temescal Alley Barbershop
This bare-bones spot is so low-key it doesn’t even have a phone. If the pole’s spinning, just walk in for the signature cut, “the Count of Monte Cristo”—a relaxed take on the high-and-tight ($22). 470B 49th St.;

Stag Barbershop (pictured above)
Owner Jess Stern’s guy-friendly shop features a comfortable leather sofa and rustic touches like the mounted caribou head the place is named for. Her trademark cut ($30)—”short with a low taper and varying lengths through the top”—can be easily styled to look casual or professional. 3064 S. Delaware Ave.; 414-489-7824;

Easy Extra Smooth Hummus Recipe

Heeey Internet,

Disclaimer: I am not a professional cook I just wanted to share this recipe because its so simple and delicious and if I could make SO CAN YOU.

Hummus has recently become one of my favorite  snacks not only is it delicious, but healthy too. So instead of buying it from the store I like to make it since its so easy and I can control what goes in it.This recipe is extremely simple and easy to make I was able to make it in 10 minutes. Now something that I will mention is that if you have a food processor USE IT. My processor broke so I had no other choice than to use my blender which still is just as good but takes a bit longer.

The best part of making your own hummus is that you can modify it to your own liking.

  • One can of chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, about 1 large lemon ( I used half)
  • 1/4 cup  tahini
  • Half of a large garlic clove, minced (I used whole clove)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for serving
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon kosher salt, depending on taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons water
  • Dash of ground paprika for serving

  • Throw everything in the food processor or blender LOL
  • Blend everything together until your reach a smooth creamy consistency

To Serve
  • Scrape the hummus into a bowl then drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the top and sprinkle with paprika.

Florida Vacation: Sharing Memories & Recommendations

Heeey Internet,

Last August my family and some family friends made a spontaneous road trip down to Florida. It was really the most random thing and since it was random it was a mess but none the less one of the most memorable trips of my life. Never in my life had I been on a road trip so I really did not know what to expect, We drove about 20 hours from NJ to FL and it was definitely the craziest experience ever in a good way. I had so much fun even though I was squashed in the back of the car with my cousins. The 20 hours consisted of us laughing, eating, falling asleep for 5 minutes, stopping to get gas and going to the bathroom, and laughing some more.

I would recommend anyone to make a road trip. Even though it is a bit uncomfortable it can be so much fun and you get to go to many states. If you carefully plan your trip (unlike my family)  you can do activities and visit locations on your way to your destination which would make your trip much more enjoyable.

We rented a house located in Kissimmee which is a town near orlando, it had everything we  could have needed for that week except for food which wasn’t really a problem since there were many grocery stores nearby. What I liked the most about the house what that it had a pool which provided me countless hours of tanning and fun.

One of my favorite places that we visited in florida was Clearwater Beach, it is gorgeous there. I would definitely recommend  going there if you get the chance. The water is clean and warm and one of the perks of the beach is that it has tents that you can rent for about $15 or $20 which comes in handy for those people who don’t enjoy the sun (like my mother).

We also went to Magic Kingdom and Miami.

Philips – PowerTouch Electric Shaver with Aquatec: Review

Heeey Internet,

Today I will be giving you guys a short little review on the Philips- PowerTouch Electric Shaver with Aquatic capabilites. For a long time now I have been wanting to purchase one of these electric shavers but never did because I was afraid of Investing money on something that wasn’t going to work for me. Personally I am not a fan of shaving because I always end up cutting myself or leaving patches so Sometimes I just don’t shave to avoid the frustration.

Processed with VSCOcam with se3 preset

I finally became fed up with the conventional razor and decided to take a risk and purchase my first electric shaver and I am so glad that I did. I will never go back to shaving with a regular razor. After shaving with the Philips electric shaver my face was left feeling like a baby’s butt and I DIDNT CUT MYSELF! *claps for self*

The shaver is easy to use and clean which is something that I like very much and I was able to shave in 5 minutes ( I usually take about 10-15 minutes).

So fellas (or ladies) I would without a shadow of a doubt recommend looking into purchasing an electric shaver . I purchased my Shaver at my local Best Buy for $69.99

Here is the link:

Product Features

  • The Aquatec design allows wet and dry use for flexible grooming options.
  • A Super Lift & Cut blade raises hairs for optimal results.

All about Instagram: My addiction and themes

Heeey Internet,

I have had Instagram for a while now and it was a place where I would post selfies, meaningless pictures of things I found to be interesting and funny, but I feel that Instagram over the course of a year or two has taken a totally different approach .

Most of the people I follow or come across post very artsy pictures that look like they belong in magazines. The big trend within the Instagram community at the moment is to have themes. To have a theme means that all of your pictures seem to have a relation to each other, so that they look complementary to one another. Having a theme does not mean that all your pictures have to be the same but definitely look good together.

To just give you an idea my current theme is dark pictures . At the moment I really like they way pictures look when I lower their exposure ( along with other editing techniques) all the way which in turn gives them a dark crisp look.

Here are a few pictures that I recently posted (all taken by me)

I use VSCO Cam to edit all of my pictures, it can make any picture look AMAZING and ig ready. If your ready to step up your Instagram game I suggest you get VSCO Cam. Also, to just give you a tip the white borders that were so popular and took over Instagram are not on trend anymore and the regular square picture is back and ready to dominate again.

So I know that someone out there reading this probably thinks I’m crazy but I don’t care, Im addicted to Instagram and themes. I think I have discovered a passion for photography, everything I encounter I see potential in for a beautiful picture. Beauty is everywhere (pardon the cheesiness).

If your interested in checking me out on Instagram you can find me @__dxj__

The Apple Watch: Why?

Heeey Internet,

On March 9th Apple unveiled more details about their newest product the Apple Watch and here is my opinion on it.

When I first heard about the watch I immediately wanted to know more about and at that time thought I was going to end up buying it anyway even though I knew nothing about it because I love apple products. Yes, I am one of those mindless sheep that will buy anything apple releases and I’m not ashamed, but once I actually saw the watch and gathered more information about it I realized I wasn’t all that interested even though it was apple.

I just can’t seem to understand its purpose and I don’t see myself or anyone else for that matter really needing one. In my opinion it is not all that revolutionary and in general just seems redundant. Maybe in the near future my opinion will change on this product but for the time being I just don’t get it. Also, the starting price is $349 if the price was lower I think I honestly would give it more consideration but for $349 I’m not interested.

Product Review: iPad Mini Case + pics

Heeey Internet,

Today I decided I wanted to blog about this iPad mini case because at the time that I purchased it I was skeptical of whether it was going to be functional or not. For a while now I have been wanting to purchase the iPad Mini Smart Case sold by Apple (pictured below) but the price of $39.00 for the simplest version was just not very appealing to me simply because  I easily get bored of things and I didn’t want to invest that much money on something that I would most likely not get much use out of.

So a little over a week ago I went on the search for a case on and immediately spotted a case that resembled the Smart Case sold by Apple and the best part was that it was only 11.99!!! I REPEAT 11.99!! It didn’t take too long before I was entering my card information to purchase it.

Once I received it, the case was way better than what I thought it was going to be. The case feels high quality and overall does exactly what it should which is protect that iPad. The front (the flap) seems made of some sort of cross between synthetic leather and rubber, it has a very good feel to it when holding it. The back is made of hard plastic and seems to be durable.

The case is available is many colors, I hope this helped out someone and below here I have provided the link to the case if your interested.

Here are some pictures of the case on my iPad

University of Miami Acceptance

Heeeey internet,

So let me start this off with a disclaimer I am not writing about this to brag at all, I am writing about this because honestly academics is a big part of my life and it makes me happy. So with that being said why would I not share something exciting for me with you all?!

I received my admission decision a little over a week ago, The University of Miami is just one of the few schools I chose to apply to for transfer. I currently attend community college and ever since I began college in the Fall of 2013 I have been really working hard and I made it my life. When I was in high school I didn’t care at all about my grades I graduated with a 2.4 gpa, and that is exactly why I ended up in community college. I am not saying the CC is bad , but I will say that it is not what I envisioned for myself.

Getting accepted at UM is a big deal for me because not to long ago I couldn’t even get into a decent college. I am a biology major and I intend on going to Medical School. My intent on going to med school is one of the reasons as to why I care so much about my academics, another major reason I try and care so hard is because I grew up in a small town and I have always had big dreams of living in a large city. In my opinion my only reasonable way out of my hometown is through college and I am feeling on cloud nine because I am finally seeing the fruit of my hard labor and a step closer to achieving my goals.

If anyone knows anything about UM, or has any opinions feel free to drop me a comment.
